On n&rsquo;y utilise toujours pas ou peu de machines, mais la diff\u00e9rence r\u00e9side dans la concentration d&rsquo;une main d&rsquo;\u0153uvre plus nombreuse.<\/p>\n<p>Les manufactures apparaissent tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t dans les domaines o\u00f9 cet agrandissement est vite n\u00e9cessaire, les chantiers navals, les verreries, et les corderies. La manufacture, qui est plus \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine une structure commerciale vendant des produits finis qu&rsquo;une entit\u00e9 physique, se distingue de l&rsquo;usine qui elle, fabrique des produits semi-finis. D\u00e8s la r\u00e9volution industrielle \u00e0 la fin du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, la notion d&rsquo;usine s&rsquo;impose.<\/p>\n<p>Par opposition \u00e0 la manufacture (fabrication manuelle), on y utilise des machines en grand nombre.
