Santorin<\/span><\/span> est une \u00eele volcanique de la mer \u00c9g\u00e9e dont l\u2019histoire est marqu\u00e9e par des \u00e9v\u00e9nements naturels et des influences culturelles majeures. \u00c0 l\u2019origine, elle formait une \u00eele circulaire, mais une violente \u00e9ruption volcanique survenue vers le XVIIe si\u00e8cle av. J.-C. a provoqu\u00e9 l\u2019effondrement de son centre, cr\u00e9ant la caldeira actuelle. Cette catastrophe a d\u00e9truit une grande partie de la civilisation minoenne pr\u00e9sente sur l\u2019\u00eele, notamment la ville d\u2019Akrotiri, aujourd\u2019hui consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme l\u2019un des sites arch\u00e9ologiques les mieux conserv\u00e9s de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. Certains historiens associent cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement au mythe de l\u2019Atlantide.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dans l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9, l\u2019\u00eele, alors appel\u00e9e Th\u00e9ra, est colonis\u00e9e par les Spartiates et devient un important centre commercial et maritime. Elle participe \u00e9galement \u00e0 la fondation de Cyr\u00e8ne, en Afrique du Nord. Par la suite, Santorin passe sous domination romaine puis byzantine, p\u00e9riodes durant lesquelles elle conserve une certaine importance strat\u00e9gique.<\/span><\/p>\n

Au Moyen \u00c2ge, apr\u00e8s la quatri\u00e8me croisade, l\u2019\u00eele est contr\u00f4l\u00e9e par les V\u00e9nitiens, qui la nomment \u00ab Santorini \u00bb en l\u2019honneur de Sainte Ir\u00e8ne. Ils y d\u00e9veloppent des fortifications pour se d\u00e9fendre contre les attaques de pirates. Au XVIe si\u00e8cle, l\u2019\u00eele est conquise par l\u2019Empire ottoman, mais elle conserve une certaine autonomie locale.<\/span><\/p>\n

Au XIXe si\u00e8cle, apr\u00e8s la guerre d\u2019ind\u00e9pendance grecque, Santorin est int\u00e9gr\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9tat grec moderne. Aujourd\u2019hui, son histoire riche, combin\u00e9e \u00e0 ses paysages spectaculaires, en fait un lieu embl\u00e9matique de la Gr\u00e8ce.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
