Born in 1962 in San Francisco.<\/span><\/p>\n

I lived in a far-out musical\/hippie commune with \u00ab\u00a0The sons of Champlin\u00a0\u00bb until 1969, whereupon my mother met, and swiftly fell in love with, E.C.M. Recording Free-Jazz artist, Contra Bassist \u00ab\u00a0Barre Phillips\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

We moved to France where we toured and lived all over Europe. In 1976 I moved back to the U.S. just in time to rebel and dive into Punk Rock. Since then, I’ve been playing, touring, and recording with many bands, the most renown of which was Warner Bros. recording artists<\/span> \u00ab\u00a0BomB\u00a0\u00bb<\/span>. Bomb<\/span> made 7 records and toured both the U.S. and Europe enjoying success and appreciation from an astoundingly wide ranging fan base for 13 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

My current S.F. Bands are<\/span> \u00ab\u00a0The night Falls<\/a>\u00ab\u00a0, \u00ab\u00a0Roadside Memorial\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Housecoat Project\u00a0\u00bb<\/a>, \u00ab\u00a0Le Group<\/a>\u00ab\u00a0, \u00ab\u00a0Battery Powered Grandpa<\/a>\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0The Janet Stuart Blues Band<\/a>\u00ab\u00a0. So ….in short, my musical tastes are very diverse and yes… I have been experienced!<\/span><\/p>\n

…na\u00eet en 1934 \u00e0 San Francisco, au bord du Pacifique, dans une Am\u00e9rique encore fr\u00e9missant de jazz et de promesses artistiques. Il commence par \u00e9tudier les langues, attir\u00e9 par les mots et leurs r\u00e9sonances, avant de comprendre que sa v\u00e9ritable langue sera celle des cordes graves. La contrebasse devient alors son territoire d\u2019exploration, un espace de libert\u00e9 totale.<\/span><\/p>\n

Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es soixante, il s\u2019installe \u00e0 New York, o\u00f9 la ville vibre d\u2019exp\u00e9rimentations musicales. Il y croise des musiciens qui repoussent les fronti\u00e8res du jazz et trouve naturellement sa place dans cette effervescence cr\u00e9ative. Tr\u00e8s vite, il se distingue par un jeu singulier, \u00e0 la fois rigoureux et aventureux, o\u00f9 chaque note semble cherch\u00e9e, questionn\u00e9e, habit\u00e9e.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mais Barre Phillips ne se contente pas d\u2019accompagner : il ose le face-\u00e0-face solitaire avec son instrument. \u00c0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1960, il enregistre un album enti\u00e8rement improvis\u00e9 pour contrebasse seule \u2014 un geste radical, presque philosophique, qui marque l\u2019histoire de la musique improvis\u00e9e. La contrebasse, jusque-l\u00e0 souvent rel\u00e9gu\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019ombre, devient voix principale, narratrice, parfois m\u00eame confidente.<\/span><\/p>\n

L\u2019Europe l\u2019appelle bient\u00f4t. Il s\u2019y installe durablement, notamment dans le sud de la France, trouvant dans la lumi\u00e8re et le silence des paysages m\u00e9diterran\u00e9ens un terrain propice \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9coute et \u00e0 l\u2019invention. L\u00e0, il compose, improvise, collabore sans rel\u00e2che, tout en transmettant son savoir \u00e0 de jeunes musiciens, toujours avec humilit\u00e9 et curiosit\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tout au long de sa vie, Barre Phillips explore l\u2019improvisation comme un art de l\u2019instant, exigeant et profond\u00e9ment humain. Son jeu ne cherche jamais l\u2019effet, mais la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 du son. Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin, il continue de dialoguer avec sa contrebasse, fid\u00e8le compagne d\u2019une qu\u00eate musicale libre, intime et sans compromis.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
